82% Indians fear job loss due to AI – survey

NEW DELHI, INDIA — Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and automation are causing major concern among Indian professionals, according to online learning platform Hero Vired.
The study, titled “Future of the Skills Landscape 2024“, reveals that 82% of Indian workers fear job loss in the next five years due to AI and automation.
This is in contrast with a survey from the United States where more than half of hourly workers are not worried about AI threatening their jobs.
There is also an increasing need for upskilling, with 90% of Indian respondents identifying AI as the most in-demand skill by 2024.
Following AI, data analysis (63%), cybersecurity (53%), machine learning (49%), and coding (41%) also feature as critical future skills.
The report makes clear that continuous reskilling is imperative for employees and employers alike to stay relevant. In fact, a significant 77.8% wish to proactively turn to upskilling.
“Assessing the perceived need for upskilling as a proactive measure becomes crucial for developing strategies to mitigate job insecurity in the rapidly evolving job ecosystem,” the report said.
Hero Vired conducted the survey among hundreds of working professionals across various sectors in India.
