Companies adopt AI despite employees’ limited skills – survey

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — A new survey from marketing and creative recruiting firm 24 Seven finds that companies are rapidly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) tools, yet most employees have limited understanding of it.

The firm surveyed over 2,100 professionals in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom across several sectors.

The report, titled “AI, Upskilling, and Staff Augmentation,” found that 84% of respondents say their organization already uses AI-powered tools. However, 55% believe employees at their company only have basic or no AI skills.

Moreover, 86% of hiring decision-makers find it challenging to fill open positions, while 90% of employees express interest in staying with their current employer if offered more perks related to upskilling

Other findings include:

  • 70% expect hiring for AI roles at their organization to increase over the next two years.
  • 61% said they have brought in external AI experts as consultants or freelancers.
  • 59% believe that hiring freelancers or consultants with tech expertise can bridge the AI knowledge gap within companies.

“Leaders must recognize the importance of enhancing the skills of their current employees while also leveraging highly adept external talent,” said 24 Seven CEO Anthony Donnarumma.

He said organizations need to determine whether to train current staff in AI, recruit new talent with those skills, or use outside experts to fill knowledge gaps.
