Accenture acquires Teamexpat, bolsters software capabilities

EINDHOVEN, NETHERLANDS — Outsourcing giant Accenture has strengthened its embedded software capabilities through the acquisition of Teamexpat, a specialist in complex high-tech products and systems based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
The move reinforces Accenture’s position in the smart, connected products space, which includes sectors such as semiconductors, aerospace, automotive, and medical technology.
Prioritizing software engineering for product innovation
With this acquisition, Teamexpat’s skilled team of software experts will join Accenture’s digital engineering team in the Netherlands.
“Software is redefining products across the semiconductor, high tech, aerospace & defense, automotive, industrial equipment, and medical technology industries,” said Frank Rennings, who leads Accenture’s digital engineering and manufacturing service, Industry X, in the Netherlands.
“We’re witnessing a shift from mechanical engineering first to software engineering first. Teamexpat’s highly sought-after capabilities will allow us to help our Dutch and European clients in these sectors reinvent their businesses with smart, connected products and services.”
Teamexpat CEO and founder Vinay Dasa expressed enthusiasm about the opportunities ahead, stating, “We are looking forward to the opportunities that becoming part of Accenture will bring to our clients and team. Accenture’s global footprint and expertise will provide a scaling platform for our clients’ near- and off-shore embedded software development projects.”
The purchase of Teamexpat adds to Accenture’s growing portfolio of embedded software and digital engineering capabilities. Other recent acquisitions in this space include:
- International engineering services firm umlaut
- German embedded software company ESR Labs
- Dutch product design and innovation agency VanBerlo
Capitalizing on Europe’s semiconductor boom
The deal comes at an opportune time. The European Union is dedicating €43 billion (US$46.7 billion) in government incentives to fund semiconductor innovation, driven by the growing demand for advanced chips.
“Teamexpat’s experts will bring valuable embedded software expertise to our clients looking to innovate in the fields of embedded systems and complex mechatronics,” said Guido D’hert, Accenture’s High Tech industry lead in Europe.
While the financial terms of the Teamexpat transaction were not disclosed, the acquisition is expected to improve Accenture’s service offerings in Europe, particularly in the Dutch market, and align with current industry trends towards sophisticated, software-driven technologies.
Accenture ranked #1 in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies. This is the second year the company clinched the index’s top spot.
Established in 2014, Teamexpat has carved a niche in software development, testing, and integration for advanced lithography systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. These systems are crucial for printing intricate patterns on semiconductor materials, which are essential for microchip performance.
