Fiji career fair showcases outsourcing job opportunities for local talent

SUVA, FIJI — The recently concluded Outsource Fiji Careers Fair 2024 offered students a unique opportunity to explore the rapidly expanding outsourcing industry in Fiji.
The two-day event, organized by Outsource Fiji, aims to inspire young Fijians to consider careers in a sector that is quickly becoming a cornerstone of the nation’s economy.
Assistant Minister of Education Iliesa Vanawalu addressed hundreds of students from schools during the opening ceremony. He emphasized the importance of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in driving economic growth and offering diverse career paths.
“Education is not confined to the walls of our classrooms,” Vanawalu said, urging students to engage with recruiters and company representatives at the fair. “Each interaction at this fair is a chance to learn something new.”
BPO industry: A key driver of Fiji’s economic growth
Fiji’s outsourcing industry has grown rapidly in recent years, positioning itself as an attractive nearshore destination for markets like Australia and New Zealand. Known for its cultural affinity and high-quality service delivery, Fiji’s BPO sector offers more than just traditional customer support roles.
Companies such as Bula Outsourcing, Centrecom, DHL Express, and Mindpearl are showcasing career opportunities in fields ranging from IT and digital marketing to finance and human resources.
Diverse career paths in Fiji’s outsourcing sector
A common misconception about outsourcing is that it only involves call center jobs. However, the industry showcased a wide range of professional opportunities during the fair. Students had the chance to explore careers in accounting, specialized engineering, digital marketing, and more.
This diversity highlighted outsourcing as an attractive option for young Fijians seeking to align their skills with global market demands.
Youth-driven industry: Opportunities for continuous learning and growth
With 90% of its workforce between the ages of 21 and 35, Fiji’s outsourcing industry is youth-driven and fast-paced. The sector emphasizes continuous learning and development, providing employees with training programs that prepare them for global standards.
For students who attended the fair, this represented an opportunity to develop versatile skill sets that will allow them to thrive both locally and internationally.
