Nearly 96% of Vietnam firms plan SOC outsourcing: Kaspersky
HANOI, VIETNAM — Nearly 96% of Vietnam firms are set to outsource at least part of their security operations center (SOC) operations, with most favoring hybrid models, according to a survey by global cybersecurity company Kaspersky, as cited from a Vietnam News report.
The report showed that the findings demonstrate Vietnam’s current utilization of foreign cybersecurity expertise to handle its growing complex cyber threats, which require advanced technical solutions.
Vietnam favors hybrid SOC models
The survey found that 59% of Vietnamese firms prefer hybrid SOC models, which combine internal teams with external specialists, while 37% are moving toward full SOC-as-a-Service (SOCaaS) implementations. In contrast, only 9% of global companies intend to build SOCs completely through their own resources.
“Nearly 96% of organisations in Vietnam plan to outsource at least part of their SOC operations,” the report said.
“Installation and deployment of security solutions (82%), development and provisioning (75%), and SOC design (79%) emerged as the top outsourced areas in the country,” the report added.
The preference for hybrid or outsourced SOCs is being driven by the need for round-the-clock protection, cited by 79% of Vietnamese respondents compared with 55% globally.
Other key drivers include access to advanced security technologies (80%), reducing the workload of internal teams (56%), and regulatory compliance (58%).
Budget considerations also play a larger role in Vietnam, with 62% of firms citing cost efficiency as a reason to outsource, versus 37% globally.
Outsourcing specialized security roles
While global firms mainly outsource frontline roles such as first-line (61%) and second-line analysts (52%), Vietnamese companies are turning to external specialists to fill technical gaps.
The survey showed that 61% of organizations outsource security engineers, while 44% of organizations use outsourced development teams, and 44% of organizations hire external threat hunters. This situation demonstrates the persistent shortage of cybersecurity professionals in the local workforce.
Kaspersky reported that Vietnamese firms use SOC outsourcing as their primary security solution, as they require 24-hour security protection, requiring them to use external service providers for their complicated operational tasks.
The trend exists as part of a broader shift in outsourcing as organizations use to manage their expenses while obtaining modern technological resources and skilled professionals.
For Vietnam, the findings showed that firms strategically integrating SOC outsourcing are not just seeking cheaper solutions to strengthen their cybersecurity resilience in a fast-evolving digital landscape.
