Azets grows UK network with Alextra Accountants acquisition

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Azets has acquired Alextra, one of the North West’s fastest-growing accountancy and business advisory firms, the group announced in a press release.
The deal adds 70 colleagues and three offices across Newcastle-under-Lyme, Crewe, and Warrington to Azets’ UK and Ireland business, extending the firm’s footprint into the corridor between Birmingham and Manchester.
The transaction reinforces Azets’ position as one of the most active consolidators in the UK accountancy sector, where firms with 4,000 people across more than 70 offices are increasingly using regional acquisitions to fill geographic gaps.
Bridging the Midlands and North West for Azets
Alextra’s three offices give Azets a strategic bridge between its Midlands and North West operations, complementing ongoing organic investment in the region.
The acquired firm has built its business through consistent organic growth and long-standing relationships with SME clients across the North West, England, and Wales, adding a strong client base in a segment Azets has prioritized.
All Alextra staff will transition to Azets except the Wealth Management team, which has been carved out and rebranded as the independent Hexagon Wealth Management.
“Alextra will be the bridge between the Midlands and North West for Azets and the team there share our approach to supporting and developing our people, our belief in first-rate client service, and our ambition to grow and evolve as a business,” said Peter Gallanagh, UK&I CEO at Azets.
He added that Alextra is “a high-performing, well-respected practice with a hugely talented team.”
Continuity for Alextra clients and staff
Mathew Weaver continues to lead the business locally as Office Managing Partner at Azets, preserving leadership continuity for clients and staff through the transition.
The integration gives Alextra access to Azets’ broader infrastructure, technology stack, and service capability, enabling faster growth while retaining the local presence that defined the firm’s reputation.
For Azets, the deal adds depth in a region where SME demand for integrated accountancy, tax, and advisory services has continued to expand.
“Becoming part of the Group will help us with our plans to scale and grow, and we’ll benefit from access to broader infrastructure, capability and support, while maintaining our client-focused approach and local presence,” said Mathew Weaver, Office Managing Partner at Azets.
The acquisition reflects an accelerating consolidation trend across the global professional services and accountancy outsourcing industry, where firms including BDO, RSM, and Crowe have moved aggressively to absorb regional practices and build national delivery platforms.
As SME clients demand fewer vendors with broader service capabilities, mid-market accountancy consolidators are emerging as the dominant structure for cross-regional professional services growth in the UK and beyond.
