WECU taps NextBranch to modernize ATM fleet under outsourcing

UTAH, UNITED STATES — WECU, one of Washington state’s largest credit unions, has partnered with NextBranch to replace and manage its entire ATM fleet under a fully outsourced model, the Kaysville, Utah-based provider announced.

NextBranch will own and operate the ATMs under a single monthly subscription that bundles equipment, software, security, compliance upgrades, monitoring, and servicing.

According to a press release, the deal positions WECU to modernize its self-service infrastructure without expanding internal headcount, addressing a growing demand among community-focused financial institutions for turnkey ATM management.

A subscription-based model built for uptime and compliance

NextBranch‘s AutoResolve technology will monitor WECU’s fleet around the clock, contributing to sustained uptime above 99% across the managed fleet.

The bundled service model converts what is traditionally a capital-intensive operation into a predictable recurring cost, while consolidating security, compliance, and servicing under a single vendor.

For WECU, the structure eliminates the operational drag of managing aging hardware, vendor coordination, and regulatory updates internally.

“Partnering with NextBranch allows us to modernize our ATM fleet without placing additional demands on our internal team,” said Malori Schlosser, Vice President of Operations at WECU.

She added that the partnership “will improve self-service options for our members while giving our staff more time to focus on building relationships and helping members reach their financial goals.”

Shifting operational burden to refocus on member engagement

The deal reflects a broader shift among community banks and credit unions to outsource non-core technology operations and redirect internal capacity toward relationship-driven services.

By transferring ATM ownership and management entirely off WECU’s balance sheet, the credit union frees staff to concentrate on member growth and engagement rather than equipment lifecycle management.

NextBranch positions its model as a turnkey alternative to traditional in-house ATM operations, with the full cost of ownership absorbed into a single line item.

“Our fully outsourced model is built to take ATM management off the institution’s plate entirely, so teams like WECU’s can stay focused on serving members and growing the credit union,” said Spencer Matthews, President of NextBranch.

The partnership reflects an accelerating consolidation push across the financial services outsourcing industry, where firms including Cardtronics, Diebold Nixdorf, and Fiserv are moving aggressively to bundle ATM, ITM, and self-service infrastructure into subscription-based managed services.

As community-focused banks and credit unions face rising compliance complexity and member expectations for digital-first service, fully outsourced ATM models are emerging as the dominant operating structure for self-service technology in U.S. retail banking.
