Accenture expands tech prowess with CLIMB acquisition

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES and TOKYO, JAPAN — Outsourcing firm Accenture has announced its acquisition of CLIMB, a Japanese technology services provider specializing in system integration, IT infrastructure management, and operations.

The deal, subject to customary closing conditions, aims to bolster Accenture’s technology capabilities, particularly in Japan‘s Gunma Prefecture region.
The acquisition will accelerate application and infrastructure modernization services for financial institutions and government agencies.
Gunma Prefecture, nestled in the heart of Japan, is a captivating region renowned for its historical significance, varied landscapes, and thriving culture. This prefecture boasts a robust economic base, with a gross domestic product (GDP) of approximately ¥9,308 billion, which is roughly equivalent to US$85.4 billion as of 2019.
Approximately 200 engineers trained in cloud, security technologies, and application management services will join Accenture Technology.
By joining Accenture, CLIMB’s workforce gains unprecedented growth and exposure opportunities, contributing to the region’s information communication technology industry.
Turning the spotlight on employees and local economies
Atsushi Egawa, Accenture’s Japan lead, emphasized the importance of giving opportunities to talented regional engineers while strengthening local economies.
“With a clear trend of people and businesses returning to the domestic market, the vibrant growth of local communities is essential for the sustainable development of Japan,” he said.
“Adding the CLIMB team, who take an innovative and exemplary approach especially to the financial industry, demonstrates how we continue to invest in Japan. We are planting more local roots through our team’s high value work in local communities.”
Osamu Kanai, CLIMB’s president, echoed this sentiment, noting that the acquisition aligns with the company’s principle of “maximizing employee happiness.”
Accenture ranked #1 in the OA500 2024, an objective index of the world’s top 500 outsourcing companies. This is the second year the company clinched the index’s top spot.
