AI speeds up recruiting, but risks remain

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming recruiting by automating tedious tasks, allowing human resources (HR) teams to work more efficiently.
According to a Tidio survey, 67% of HR professionals see value in AI recruiting technologies. However, 35% believe using technology could still risk bias and overlook unique and unconventional talents.
Companies like HireVue offer AI solutions for reviewing resumes and screening candidates faster.
HireVue CDO Lindsey Zuloaga told Business Insider that AI “automates mundane tasks and improves fairness in their processes.”
On the other hand, researchers at Cambridge University found AI does not necessarily boost diversity or eliminate discrimination.
“It is essential to carefully monitor and address bias in AI recruitment tools and increase diversity and inclusion in the teams that are designing the tools,” said Pamela Maynard, CEO of the IT consulting firm Avanade.
Major corporations, including Microsoft, Amazon, Unilever, and Koch Industries, have collaborated to establish principles and protocols for ethical use of AI in recruitment.
