Amazon CEO wants employees back in office in May
WASHINGTON, UNITED STATES — Amazon CEO Andy Jassy is asking employees to start working back in the office for at least three days a week next month.
In a memo shared with shareholders and employees, Jassy said that collaboration is easier and more effective in person.
He added that it is easier “to learn, model, practice, and strengthen” Amazon’s culture while surrounded by colleagues within the office.
Jassy also wrote that Amazon’s new hybrid arrangement will boost “thousands of businesses” located around the firm’s urban headquarters in Puget Sound, Virginia, Nashville, and “dozens of cities around the world where our employees go to the office.”
This announcement comes after the e-commerce giant laid off around 18,000 jobs in January and 9,000 in March.
However, an internal memo obtained by Insider indicated that some of Amazon’s office space won’t be ready until September.
According to the memo, five of Amazon’s six corporate offices in New York and four of six offices in Austin, Texas, will not be ready to occupy until September 1.
