Andhra Pradesh tops in new job creation under IBPS scheme

The Indian state of Andhra Pradesh ranked first in employment generation under the India Business Process Outsourcing Promotion Scheme (IBPS) rolled out by the Centre, encouraging business process outsourcing (BPO) companies to set up shop in tier-II and III cities across the country.
According to the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), the IBPS executing body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam created the highest number of BPO jobs under the scheme at 7,738, followed by Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore at 4,908, and Punjab’s Mohali at 4,453 in second and third position.
“The BPO Promotion Schemes have received an overwhelming response from the BPO industry. Currently, 252 BPO/ITeS units are operational on 47,043 seats under the scheme,” said Omkar Rai, STPI director general.
IBPS has generated direct employment for more than 40,000 people residing in tier-II and III cities, out of which about 38 percent are women, the official press release said.
