Apple CEO highlights India’s role in global tech dominance

BANGALORE, INDIA — Apple CEO Tim Cook underscored India’s pivotal role in the global technology landscape, citing the country’s talent pool and supply chains as key factors in enhancing global competitiveness.
India’s tech importance has been on a steady rise, with Apple adopting a holistic approach that spans developer support to market strategies. This has significantly boosted the company’s revenue and market focus in the region.
A flourishing developer community
In a statement, Cook expressed his satisfaction with the rapidly growing base of developers in India and emphasized the comprehensive ecosystem Apple is nurturing.
“We have been very pleased that there is a rapidly growing base of developers in India. Apple is working all of the entire ecosystem from developer to the market to operations, the whole thing,” The CEO remarked, highlighting the company’s all-encompassing strategy.
Record revenue growth
Cook specifically pointed out Apple India’s remarkable performance, marked by double-digit revenue growth and a new March quarter record.
He described India as an “incredibly exciting market” and a “major focus” for Apple, reflecting the country’s increasing importance in Apple’s global strategy.
“We did grow strong by double-digit, and so we were very, very pleased with that. It was a new March quarter revenue record for us,” Cook stated, underscoring the company’s successful expansion in India.
India’s strategic advantage
The CEO elaborated on India’s strategic advantage for global tech companies, including low operating costs, a large talent pool, and a stable environment for supply chains.
In the context of global geopolitical shifts, India emerged as a crucial hub for tech giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Meta, with their revenue growth rates in India surpassing global expansion rates in 2023.
“From a pragmatic point of view, you need to produce there (India) to be competitive,” Cook added, linking operational strategies with market initiatives.
Expanding Apple’s footprint
Apple’s commitment to India extends beyond revenue growth, with efforts to strengthen distribution channels and support the developer community.
In 2023, Apple supported over a million developer jobs in India, with plans for further expansion. This, coupled with Apple’s achievement of setting a six-month revenue record in India and other emerging markets, underscores the country’s critical role in shaping the global tech landscape.
