ASEAN, Japan partner to boost Philippine cybersecurity

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The new ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community (AJCC) aims to improve cybersecurity in the Philippines through regional collaboration.
The number of cyberattacks in the Philippines this year is the highest in Southeast Asia, according to Palo Alto Networks.
To address these challenges, the Philippines will send 20 experts in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship to the AJCC International Conference in Tokyo on October 5-6.
Experts emphasize that strengthening cybersecurity requires unified efforts.
“We can only strengthen the cybersecurity community if it is built on collaboration, cooperation, communication, and contribution,” said Sam Jacoba, President of the National Association of Data Protection Officers of the Philippines.
Seiichi Ito, chair of the international relations committee at the Japan Network Security Association, said governments must enhance the power to develop and protect critical infrastructure for cybersecurity.
“Everybody has a responsibility to educate themselves and the people around them,” added Rudi Lumanto, founder and advisor of the Indonesia Network Security Association.
