GPTW India report highlights burnout risk in IT-BPM sector
MUMBAI, INDIA — A new report by Great Place to Work (GPTW) India underscored the remarkable resilience of the country’s IT-BPM sector, while also highlighting concerns around employee burnout that need addressing.
The report provides insights gathered from 1.8 million employees of major IT services companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra. It found that 27% of employees at large IT firms face burnout risk, 3% higher than their mid-sized counterparts.
“The trend draws the importance of maintaining a delicate balance between growth and employee well-being,” said Yeshasvini Ramaswamy, CEO of Great Place to Work India.
Ramaswamy explained that dimensions like Pride and Fairness emerged highest and lowest in sentiment, respectively. The reduction in Camaraderie and Pride shaped the overall experience. She stressed that Workplace Ikigai can empower individuals to align passions, relationships, leadership, and impact.
The report found that 77% of IT firms monitor wellbeing, with 55% using multiple methods. Achieving employee fulfillment boosts retention 1.7X. Employees immersed in team dynamics are 3X more likely to view the workplace as exceptional.
Those with great leadership experiences are also 3X more inclined to consider the workplace excellent.
Ramaswamy concluded that focusing on well-being, team spirit, and upskilling will enhance dynamics and deliver returns.
Overall, the report stressed the importance of maintaining the balance between growth and employee welfare for India to sustain its leadership in the global IT arena
