Cognizant to install Amazon payment system in Canberra Institute

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Business process outsourcing company Cognizant has been tapped by the Canberra Institute of Technology Student Association (CITSA) to install Amazon’s Just Walk Out system to elevate the student retail experience.
Cognizant will install Just Walk Out in Café Yala Plus Student Association store, where students purchase food, drinks, and essential items.
The payment gateway enables shoppers to enter a store, approach the shelves, grab their groceries, and walk out of the shop without getting flagged and frisked by security.
Just Walk Out – laced with the latest artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies – bills shoppers automatically and correctly, eliminating long queues and tedious checkouts. Store management can also easily monitor its inventory through the platform.
“Many CIT students balance work, study, and training, so flexibility and accessibility are important. Many students living on the CIT Bruce Campus lack easy access to nearby shopping. Café YalaPlus now offers convenient access to food, beverages, and other essential items,” said Andrew Scotford, CEO of the CIT Student Association.
The Just Walk Out payment system is available at more than 70 Amazon-owned stores and more than 85 third-party locations across the U.S., UK, and Australia, including sports stadiums, airports, grocery stores, convenience stores, and college campuses.
