Conduent installs tech to combat benefits fraud in South Carolina

NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES — Conduent Incorporated has implemented new technologies to combat fraud and enhance security for South Carolina’s Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) program.
The technologies aim to help agencies and beneficiaries nationwide prevent EBT fraud targeting nutrition assistance and other cash-aid programs. It specifically targets fraud in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Advanced IVR system detects suspicious activity
One of the fraud-reducing tools is an advanced interactive voice response (IVR) system that automatically identifies suspicious call patterns, such as an unusually high number of calls from a single phone number.
The tool can prevent access to EBT account information in real upon threat detection.
Conduent’s ConnectEBT provides account protection
South Carolina has also made the account protection feature available to beneficiaries, allowing them to easily and safely access benefits cards using Conduent’s ConnectEBT mobile app and cardholder portal.
Other states, including Iowa, Maryland, New York, and Ohio, have also implemented similar ConnectEBT security features from Conduent.
Conduent enables cardholders to manage usage alerts
Additionally, Conduent implemented a feature allowing cardholders to receive and manage usage alerts to identify suspicious transaction activity on their EBT accounts.
“We’re providing agencies with security tools and technologies that help ensure states can most effectively serve their EBT constituents,” said Wade Fairey, General Manager, Payments and Child Support Solutions at Conduent. “These features are designed to help states curb unauthorized access to accounts and ensure that funds go to the intended benefits recipients.”
