Faster internet delivered by Duterte admin

President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration fulfilled its promise of providing faster internet connection for Filipinos, according to the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).
ARTA Director-General Jeremiah Belgica said that simplifying the process of building telecommunications infrastructure facilitated improvements in fixed broadband and mobile data speed in the country.
ARTA also signed a Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) on pole, fiber ducts, and cable laying last month, together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, (DHSUD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other key agencies.
The ARTA chief stated that there is a need for better and faster internet connection in far-flung areas in the country amid the pandemic.
He added that they will continue to step up their efforts and will push for innovation to improve the government’s way of doing business with the transacting public.
In a recent Ookla report, the Philippines’ mobile internet download speed was recorded to increase from 18.68 Mbps in November to 19.20 Mbps in December. Additionally, the country’s fixed broadband download speed improved from 46.44 Mbps to 50.26 Mbps in the same period.
