Flexible workplace among key office fit-out trends for 2022

More companies in the Asia Pacific are adopting flexible working practices, which in turn is affecting the office fit-out trends for 2022, according to a report by real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield.
Cushman & Wakefield Asia Pacific Head of Project & Development Services Tom Gibson said that there is now “a shift” in how companies envision their work arrangements. These plans, in turn, are affecting the decision-making in the office market.
In the firm’s 2022 Asia Pacific Office Fit-out Cost Guide, Cushman & Wakefield identified three key office trends for this year.
This includes planning for permanent hybrid work conditions; experience-focused design that prefers flexibility and quality over quantity of space; and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations.
Gibson stated that they are expecting “further advances in office fit-outs that promote a healthy workplace and provide a strong platform that contributes to business success.”
The real estate firm also reported that Japan remains the most expensive office fit-out market in the region for the third consecutive year. Three Japanese cities took the top spots — Tokyo cost US$166 per square foot, followed by Osaka (US$161), and Nagoya (US$157).
As vaccination continues, Cushman & Wakefield expects a full-time office return in the region that will drive growth in the office market for 2022.
