Major BPOs form outsourcing association BOSAG to boost Ghana’s digital economy
ACCRA, GHANA — Ghana has launched a groundbreaking initiative to position itself as Africa’s leading business process outsourcing (BPO) hub by establishing the Business Outsourcing Services Association of Ghana (BOSAG).
This strategic move targets the lucrative global BPO and IT outsourcing market, which currently stands at $1.01 trillion annually and employs approximately 43 million people worldwide.
Industry leaders spearhead BOSAG
Ghana currently hosts several major global BPO players, including Concentrix + Webhelp and Majorel, which collectively employ over 1,500 young professionals. Other significant operators serving both local and international clients include Amalitech, Turntabl, Tech Mahindra, iSON Xperiences, ZuZo, Remotelli, CCI Global, and E-services Africa Limited.
The country has already established a substantial presence in the Global Business Services (GBS) sector, with over 19,000 people employed, contributing 0.5% of the global workforce.
International partnerships drive BPO growth
The initiative emerges from a powerful collaboration between German Cooperation, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), and key industry stakeholders.
During the GBS Partnership Forum in Accra, GIZ GmbH Team Leader John Duti presented compelling evidence of BPO’s transformative potential, citing the Philippines’ remarkable journey from an agriculture-dependent economy to a global BPO powerhouse.
“In Africa, Egypt and South Africa have taken the lead and are creating jobs for their youth. Ghana is equally in the position to do the same with the attention now on Africa,” Duti added.
Digital transformation and economic development
Meanwhile, GIPC CEO Yofi Grant underscored how this initiative dovetails with Ghana’s broader digital transformation strategy.
The focus lies on leveraging digitalization to generate employment opportunities, spark innovation, and drive sustainable economic growth, with GIPC actively working to showcase Ghana’s competitive advantages to global companies.
“We will work diligently to implement the recommendations outlined in the action plan and create a thriving BPO ecosystem in Ghana,” Grant noted.
BOSAG’s strategic roadmap for success
Under the leadership of Board Chairman Kojo Afedzi Hayford, BOSAG has outlined a comprehensive approach to industry development.
“BOSAG will not only advance the interests of member companies through trade facilitation and showcase Ghana to global customers as a credible outsourcing destination but, most importantly, be a strong advocate that will partner with the government to create jobs for Ghanaians,” Hayford stated.
