Global talent shortage hits 16-year record high

About 75% of employers worldwide have difficulty finding capable talent — the highest in 16 years— according to a report from employment agency ManpowerGroup.
In the latest survey of 40,000 global employers, 77% of large firms, 75% of medium-sized companies, 74% of small businesses, and 71% of micro-enterprises are having difficulties filling their vacant positions.
Due to this dilemma, Manpower stated that 47% of respondents plan to hire more workers in Q3. Meanwhile, 34% are looking to keep their workforce levels steady, and 15% expect to see staffing decrease in the following quarters.
ManpowerGroup Chairman and CEO Jonas Prising said, “While it’s encouraging to see employers have the intention to hire workers, it’s been increasingly difficult for them to find the talent they need.”
“On top of the skills gap challenge, employers are dealing with wage inflation and competition for workers, as many are switching industries altogether to better suit their lifestyle… The need for organizations like ours to focus on reskilling and creating talent at scale has never been more important.”
