Govt eyes shift to MGCQ by 2021

Malacañang announced that the government might downgrade the classification of community quarantine in all areas in the country to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) by the first quarter of 2021.
Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said the government would assess whether areas put under general community quarantine (GCQ) would be ready for the transition to MGCQ by next month. MGCQ is the lowest form of community quarantine enforced by the government. It is currently in place throughout the country except Metro Manila and six cities and provinces.
Over the weekend, the Department of Health expressed hope that all local government units will shift to MGCQ by the first quarter of 2021. However, Health Undersecretary and spokesman Maria Rosario Vergeire said LGUs should have efficient surveillance and contact tracing systems to be able to shift to MGCQ.
