Healthcare IT outsourcing to triple by 2035, hitting $173Bn: report

MAHARASHTRA, INDIA — The global healthcare IT outsourcing market will reach $173.2 billion by 2035, growing at 13.04% CAGR through the forecast period as cloud adoption, AI integration, and cybersecurity demand accelerate outsourcing across hospitals, insurers, pharmaceutical firms, and clinical research organizations.

According to a report from Market Growth Reports, more than 78% of healthcare organizations already outsource at least one IT function establishing outsourcing as the operating standard rather than the exception in healthcare IT delivery.

Operational IT outsourcing leads at 46% of the market; providers drive demand

Operational HCIT outsourcing commands the largest segment at approximately 46% of the 2026 market, covering the day-to-day IT infrastructure, systems management, and support functions that health systems rely on for continuous clinical and administrative operations.

Healthcare provider systems hold the largest application segment at 38% of the market — the hospital and health system client base that drives EHR management, clinical workflow support, and infrastructure outsourcing demand, underpinned by 94% US hospital EHR adoption and 82% of healthcare providers already utilizing outsourced IT support.

64% of newly outsourced healthcare IT projects involve cloud-based platforms, reflecting a shift from legacy on-premise IT management to cloud-native infrastructure where specialist outsourcing vendors deliver the integration, migration, and security expertise health systems cannot cost-effectively build internally.

“More than 78% of healthcare organizations outsource at least one IT function, reflecting broad industry adoption of outsourcing as a core healthcare IT delivery strategy,” Market Growth Reports stated.

North America leads at 42% share as cybersecurity and AI drive new outsourcing demand

North America holds approximately 42% of the global healthcare IT outsourcing market in 2026, followed by Europe at 28% and Asia-Pacific at 23% — a regional concentration that reflects where regulated digital health infrastructure is most mature and where compliance-driven outsourcing demand is highest.

Healthcare accounts for 27% of reported data breaches worldwide, 69% of healthcare providers have increased spending on outsourced security monitoring, and 61% identify data security risks as a primary outsourcing concern — demand that cannot be addressed by cost-reduction outsourcing alone.

67% of outsourced healthcare technology projects now incorporate AI, while 74% of healthcare organizations are investing in outsourced integration services — the connectivity and interoperability layer that connects EHRs, claims systems, clinical devices, and population health platforms.

The 13.04% CAGR through 2035 is among the fastest growth rates in any outsourcing sub-sector — driven not by labor cost arbitrage but by specialized capability demand in cloud, AI, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance that health systems are increasingly unable to build or retain internally.

“67% of outsourced healthcare technology projects now incorporate AI, with organizations prioritizing vendors capable of delivering integrated cloud, AI, and cybersecurity capabilities across the healthcare IT stack,” Market Growth Reports stated.

For BPO and specialist outsourcing vendors, the $173.2 billion forecast documents a market growing on capability demand rather than cost reduction — the operators best positioned to capture the 2035 opportunity are those already building specialized expertise in clinical data integration, AI-assisted diagnostics workflows, and healthcare-specific cybersecurity compliance rather than competing on generic IT service pricing.
