IBM acquires Manta to enhance AI capabilities

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — IT technology and consulting giant IBM announced the acquisition of Manta Software, a data lineage platform, to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) and data governance capabilities. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Prague, Manta helps businesses gain visibility into their data environments by providing a comprehensive map of data flows, sources, transformations and dependencies.
Manta’s capabilities will allow IBM to increase transparency in its Watson AI platform so clients can validate data used for AI models, trace origins and evolution of data, and detect discrepancies.
IBM’s purchase of Manta is its eighth acquisition for the year 2023. Under the leadership of Arvind Krishna, who took the reins as CEO in April 2020, IBM has added over 30 companies to its portfolio, enhancing its hybrid cloud and AI prowess.
IBM is integrating AI into its latest offerings. The company recently launched an AI-driven managed cybersecurity service that aids businesses in identifying and reacting to threats in both cloud and on-premise setups.
In a move to tackle the worldwide AI skills shortage, IBM pledged in September to train 2 million people in AI by the close of 2026.
