Iloilo Named One of Top 10 Cities

The Metro Manila area is currently home to 70% of all BPOs in the Philippines. This has resulted in a strain on the city’s resources, and a five-kilometer commute takes three hours. Affordable housing is also hard to come by.
To ensure more equitable growth, the Government wants 50% of BPOs outside the National Capital Region by 2022. As part of their push, they have shortlisted ‘Next 10 Cities’ for BPOs.
They are Baguio, Davao, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Lipa, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Naga and Rizal.
Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, the Mayor of Iloilo, said that his city was the most ideal destination. There is a huge bank of local manpower that is highly qualified, plus a favorable business climate. BPOs are already present in Iloilo, taking advantage of superior infrastructure and local tax incentives. Peace and order, good governance and streamlined permit processing only sweeten the deal further for anyone wanting to enter Iloilo.
The Information Technology-Business Process Association of the Philippines, in association with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, has named Iloilo a Center of Excellence for Information Technology-Business Process Management.
