MUMBAI, INDIA — Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys, has delivered a resounding message to global markets: Indian IT will not only survive but thrive as artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the business and technology landscape.
Speaking in a panel discussion, Nilekani dismissed frequent predictions about the decline of Indian tech giants, noting, “Obituaries have been written many times.” Yet, he is confident that Indian IT and Infosys will thrive in the AI era.
India’s IT leadership in the AI race
Infosys and India’s IT sector are at the forefront of adapting to rapid advances in AI, impacting technology industries worldwide.
With major tech players in the United States, Europe, and Asia pushing for automation and digital transformation, Nilekani emphasized that Indian companies are uniquely positioned to leverage their vast talent pool and robust infrastructure.
He remarked, “The best place for technology at scale is really Infosys, is really India. Because what we do here for large companies, there’s no one else who has that sort of knowledge.”
Infosys bets on AI and upskilling
As AI becomes an integral part of global service delivery, Infosys is prioritizing employee upskilling, research collaborations, and responsible AI implementation.
“I’m very, very confident that in the current environment with the advent of AI, certainly at Infosys we can say that not only will we master this technology capability, but we’ll also actually use it to our advantage to again move forward and become even more critical to the world’s technology needs,” Nilekani said.
The company’s global delivery model is already evolving to integrate AI solutions with traditional IT services, promising enhanced productivity and innovation worldwide.
Indian IT confidence in a disruptive era
Despite economic uncertainties and technological disruption, Indian IT firms like Infosys remain optimistic. Nilekani’s bold statement serves as a rallying call not only for India’s technology sector but also for the global business community that relies on its services.
With the AI revolution underway, Infosys’ leadership underscores that adaptability, strategic investment, and talent development will keep India central to the global technology narrative in the years ahead.
