India’s female workforce dropped to 29.3% in Q2

The female workforce in India dropped to 29.3% from April to June this year compared to 70.7% of its male counterparts, according to a Q4 survey conducted by the Union government’s labor ministry.
The survey revealed that the latest share of women in the total workforce decreased over the last eight years. The share of women in the total workforce has decreased from 31% in 2013-14 to 29% in Q1 2021.
The majority of female employees in the country were reported in the education sector (43.9%), followed by the health sector (39.9%), and financial services sector (34.4%).
The country also reported a 29% surge in its employment activity across nine sectors this year, despite the ongoing pandemic.
