India’s IT industry cracks down moonlighters
The Indian information technology (IT) outsourcing industry intolerant of moonlighting, begins to crack down on employees who have side gigs.
As remote work normalized, moonlighting became an “open secret” in India’s outsourced IT sector. This, according to IT firms, poses the risk of leaking confidential information between competitors.
According to Kotak Institutional Equities’ recent survey reveals that nearly 65% of IT employees know someone who is moonlighting or pursuing part-time opportunities while working a full-time job.
To curb the rampant moonlighting activities industry players started to impose strict policies on the matter. Recently, Wipro dismissed 300 employees who were moonlighting.
Tata Consultancy Solutions called the practice an “ethical concern” previously this month. Infosys, on the other hand, allows employees to take on side jobs under some conditions.
”It’s sort of top of mind today for basically everybody here in India due to the fact that the issue does exist and it’s big,” stated Ashok Hariharan, CEO of recognition confirmation business IDfy.
While performance losses were an issue, Hariharan stated IT companies were most anxious about moonlighting staff members divulging important copyright.
“The danger considerably increases due to the fact that your information can go out, your exclusive approach can go out.” Hariharan said.
