JFC lauds approval of Open Access Act

The Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC) recently commended the House of Representatives’ approval of the Open Access Data Transmission Act which seeks to address the need for fast, reliable, and affordable internet and data services.
The Open Access Data Transmission Act of House Bill No. 6 was approved on the third reading.
JFC, a coalition of the American, Australian-New Zealand, Canadian, European, Japanese, and Korean chambers of commerce and the Philippine Association of Multinational Companies Regional Headquarters Incorporated (PAMURI), is optimistic that after its approval in the House of Representatives, the Senate will have enough time to deliberate and approve the measure.
The enactment of the bill will unlock the market and will harness a competitive environment. It is also seen to lower regulatory barriers and costs of entry for market players offering internet service and promotes fair and open competition at different segments of the data transmission network.
According to JFC, it will imrpove data transmission services in the country, a pre-requisite to establishing a stronger digital policy framework for the Philippines.
