Liberty Global outsources Horizon Platform to Infosys
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — Telecommunications company Liberty Global recently outsourced the development and operation of its Horizon entertainment and connectivity platform to IT consulting firm Infosys.
The five-year deal is worth €1.5 billion (US$1.64 billion) and is expected to help Liberty Global reduce its annual operating costs by €100 million (US$109 million).
The Horizon platform is critical to Liberty Global’s service delivery strategy, providing real-time TV service delivery, on-demand/catch-up services, third-party applications, games, and music. It also has more than 10 million TV/video services customers in six countries.
Infosys will take over the development and operations of the platform and enhance it with the Infosys Topaz generative AI system. The deal will also involve the transfer of 400 Liberty Global employees to Infosys.
“Our collaboration with Infosys started a few years ago, and since then we’ve made great progress in jointly establishing our best-in-class entertainment and connectivity platforms,” said Liberty Global CTO Enrique Rodriguez.
The deal will also enable Infosys to license the Horizon platform to service providers outside the Liberty Global portfolio, potentially creating new revenue opportunities for both companies.
