Outsourcing seen as solution to Nigeria’s unemployment

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Human resource experts in Nigeria believe that outsourcing could be a powerful strategy to address the country’s unemployment challenges.
Obiora Madu, the former President of the Association for Outsourcing Professionals of Nigeria (AOPN), said that outsourcing could bring long-term economic benefits to the country.
Madu highlights numerous outsourcing activities in Nigeria’s logistics, software, and IT services. He also emphasized that companies engaged in Human Resource outsourcing ensure their workers receive pensions and other statutory benefits.
However, Madu also pointed out that the current approach to outsourcing in the country may lead to job losses.
Justice Ngwama, a Labour Relations & Human Resources expert, added that outsourcing has the potential for exploitation, as outsourcing firms may pay workers low wages and incentives.
To ensure the success of outsourcing as a solution to Nigeria’s unemployment challenges, the government should consider making outsourcing a strategic tool for job creation.
It is crucial for outsourcing companies to conduct proper background checks on workers, and they should bear the liabilities associated with these workers. Additionally, companies should carefully evaluate the potential implications of outsourcing before making decisions.
By implementing these measures, outsourcing can be a viable solution to address unemployment in Nigeria, allowing businesses to focus on their core competencies while creating new job opportunities.
