NCR’s stricter alert level could affect 200K workers – DTI
The department of Trade and Industry (DTI) estimates that about 200,000 workers will be affected by the implementation of Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila.
DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said that the economy could lose an estimated P200 million (US$3.8 million) for the duration of the alert level. This is brought about by the tightened quarantine measures which could force some businesses to cut their capacities and operations.
But despite this, Lopez expressed his support for the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ (IATF) decision to scale up the quarantine is essential for safety.
The trade chief also urged establishments to strictly observe health protocols and constantly check proof of vaccination to help curb the spread of the virus.
Based on reports, COVID-19 fresh cases doubled after the holidays because of mass gatherings and celebrations.
As of Monday, the Department of Health reported a total of 24,992 active cases in the Philippines. The country is also being classified again as a high-risk country for COVID-19 infections.
