North American tech salaries up 5-10% in 2023
GEORGIA, UNITED STATES — Recruitment agency Lorien’s latest study indicates a 5-10% uptick in tech salaries this year in North America, fueled by a low supply of highly skilled workers.
According to Lorien’s Technology and Digital Salary Survey 2023, specialized fields like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and software development are seeing above-average wage growth.
Senior Software Engineers earn an average of $172,000, followed by Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists, who make $153,000 and $135,000, respectively.
Salaries in cybersecurity have also seen a 4-8% rise, with roles like security engineers earning $140,000 and Chief Information Security Officers taking home $240,000.
Silicon Valley continues to outpace other regions in salary, with earnings averaging 10-20% higher than the national rate. Seattle, New York, Austin, and Boston also rank as top-paying tech cities.
Meanwhile, companies focusing on AI development offer wages 10-15% above the standard market rates. At the same time, 45% of tech firms have implemented permanent remote or hybrid work policies to attract more candidates.
Lorien North America President Ryan McMahon said that long-term needs for specialized skills will continue as companies invest in digitalization and transformation.
“Additionally, the promise of AI is leading many companies to seek out talent that can optimize the use of such technologies, which will further drive demand today and in the future,” he added.
The report also predicts a 35% growth in cybersecurity jobs over the next decade and identifies a rising demand for e-commerce and mobile specialists.
