PH eyes joining trade deal to boost US trade relations

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is looking into the possibility of signing up for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to boost economic relations with the United States.
According to Trade Assistant Secretary Allan Gepty, this was triggered by the election of Joe Biden.
Further, Gepty added that this move will boost the Philippines’ trade activities that will then help exporters bounce back from the ill effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Now that we have concluded the RCEP, it might accelerate the discussions for other FTAs [free trade agreements], as it gives us more resources to devote for other FTAs, including the review of existing ones,” Gepty said.
