Philippines and India should cooperate not compete in BPO sector says Duterte

India and the Philippines need to work more closely together and look to complement each other’s strengths in the IT and business process outsourcing industries, according to Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippines’ President. Speaking during the five-day state visit of Ram Nath Kovind, the Indian president, Duterte told his counterpart that, despite being the world’s two leading BPO markets, they are not in competition but should, instead, be focusing more on cooperating across a range of sectors, including digital, startups, health and agricultural development, while also noting that the Philippines is increasingly playing an important role within India’s corporate sector.
For his part, Kovind emphasized the mutual benefits of fostering stronger economic ties between the two nations. At present, the Philippines and India are the two giants of the BPO world, with the sector employing 1.2 million and 1.1 million people in the two nations respectively.
