Senate passes POGO tax bill

The Senate approved a bill seeking to impose tax liabilities to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), also known as Senate Bill No. 2232, or An Act Taxing Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations
Voting 17-3, the senate seeks to revise the National Internal Revenue Code to better collect taxes from POGOs. It skipped the three-day rule since its passage was certified as urgent by the head of state.
Through the bill, foreigners employed by POGOs will be subjected to a 25-percent withholding tax. Once enacted, it is expected to raise P28.7 billion in additional revenue this 2021, and P32 billion next year.
