Singapore prefers hybrid set-up vs. remote work

SINGAPORE CITY, SINGAPORE — Most companies and employees from Singapore prefer a hybrid work arrangement over a full-time remote work setup.
According to a report released by Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) earlier this month, remote work openings dropped to just 21% in 2022 – down from 31% in 2021.
MOM said the drop reflects a normalization of work trends as more activities resumed on-site in 2022.
In comparison, experts said that hybrid work models are emerging as the clear winner, with 70% of workers preferring this option.
Many Singaporean organizations also embrace the hybrid model, including professional services firm Deloitte Singapore and talent solutions provider Armstrong Craven.
“For Deloitte in Singapore, our work flexibility program includes the option for our people to either work from home or in the office and decide when they would like to start and end work for the day,” said Ong Siok Peng, Deloitte Singapore Talent Leader.
However, an article from Human Resources Director (HRD) said that since hybrid setups are “still in its infancy,” approaches towards it are different per company.
Some companies allow their employees to split time between the office and at home, while others order workers to come to the office every day but with shortened hours.
Meanwhile, others have given employees total flexibility to choose where and when they want to work.
“There are all sorts of complexities that come into play and I’m not sure that anyone’s got it 100% right yet,” said Helen Coult, regional president APAC at Armstrong Craven
“One thing is for sure…Hybrid is here to stay, it isn’t going away,” Coult added.
