STEM workers prioritize job stability over salary bumps, says study

NEW YORK, UNITED STATES — A study by the Specialist Staffing Group reveals that science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) professionals globally prefer job security to higher salaries.
According to a survey of 2,300 respondents globally, 53% consider job retention more important than a higher salary. Only 16% disagreed with that sentiment.
Sunny Ackerman, President of Specialist Staffing Group President Sunny Ackerman said that the data from their latest study clearly illustrates how most STEM professionals look beyond their paychecks when considering job satisfaction.
The study also shed light on the importance of purposeful work in STEM careers, cited by 81% of respondents worldwide and 90% in the US.
Workplace diversity and inclusion are also vital to 62% of STEM professionals globally, with permanent staff (63%) valuing it more than contractors (50%).
Additionally, 51% of global STEM professionals would opt for engaging work over a larger paycheck (32%).
Specialist Staffing Group also asked about AI and found that 34% of STEM professionals globally are worried about losing their jobs to AI and automation.
CEO Timo Lehne said, “AI and automation are causing a lot of excitement and nervousness about their impact on the global workforce.”
He added that addressing professional fears and formulating appropriate responses to AI is crucial as it gets increasingly integrated into our daily lives.
