Sysco, the largest food distributor in the US, has announced that it will outsource all of its US customer service functions to Cognizant, a New Jersey outsourcing firm with operations in the Philippines. The move will eliminate Sysco’s internal customer service jobs from all of its US subsidiaries and its customer service office in Cypress, Texas.
The move involves the laying off of approximately 30 employees in the Houston area. Sysco has more than 69,000 employees worldwide. The firm said the changes will help them to increase agility, reduce costs, and accelerate decision-making. Sysco last year laid off nearly 300 finance and accounting staff at its shared services center in Cypress.
