Two-thirds of UK firms struggle with digital skills, says study
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — A new study by technology company Userlane revealed that two-thirds of businesses in the United Kingdom (UK) face a digital skills gap. However, 89% of employees are motivated to gain new digital abilities.
According to the 2023 State of Digital Adoption report, employees want to be more productive and efficient (34%), keep pace with technology (33%), and enhance job security (29%) by acquiring in-demand skills such as data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and online learning platforms.
While 53% of respondents said that they are using more software over the past year, 90% still struggle in adopting new applications, losing 2.33 hours per week. One-quarter feel overwhelmed or stressed.
Around 68% say stress-free software is vital for job satisfaction, and 90% link it to greater productivity.
Meanwhile, 62% believe they get adequate training and IT support from employers.
Userlane CEO Hartmut Hahn said, “Our report shows that most employees prefer to apply digital skills practically – in other words, learn by doing.”
“A great way to achieve this is by implementing a Digital Adoption Platform (DAP). DAPs not only integrate seamlessly with any software your employees are using, but they can also be combined with analytics tools that track and measure digital adoption progress across hundreds of different applications,” he added.
