Hybrid, remote work boosts full-time employment for UK women
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — More women have become fully employed in sectors with hybrid and remote working practices since the pandemic, said research and consultancy firm Public First.
In a study based on official UK data, Public First revealed that 58.7% of women in the UK’s workforce were fully employed this year, from 56.5% in 2019.
The surge has been more apparent in sectors implementing hybrid work, such as finance and insurance (75% to 83%), and information and communication (79% to 83%).
Mothers experienced an even more significant uptick in full-time employment, with a rise of over 10 percentage points in finance and IT sectors.
Rachel Wolf, a founding partner of Public First, said, “This is convincing evidence that the changes accelerated by COVID-19 are genuinely beneficial for a segment of the workforce with high human capital, yet historically fewer full-time opportunities compared to men.”
However, the study also warned that rolling back hybrid policies could jeopardize the gains made in female employment.
