US IT employment remains ‘flat’

IT jobs in the United States (US) fell by 0.05% in August to approximately 5.4 million jobs as there are not enough IT professionals available to meet the needs of businesses.
An analysis by the trade association TechServe Alliance revealed that there is plenty of demand and positions in the tech industry. Still, there are only a limited number of talents available.
On a year-over-year basis, IT jobs were up 0.19%, or 10,500 jobs.
TechServe Alliance CEO Mark Roberts said, “Our members are constantly educating their clients about the necessity of making quick hiring decisions, offering competitive benefits and compensation, and being flexible on where the work is performed wherever possible.”
He added that despite recession and layoff talks, “it is still an employees’ market in IT, with many candidates receiving multiple competing job offers.”
Meanwhile, the TechServe Alliance also reported that engineering employment rose by 4.04% in August, representing 106,100 jobs.
Month over month, the increase was 0.30%, reflecting a total of 2.7 million engineering workers.
