UTRS expands cybersecurity reach with Black Cipher acquisition

NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES — Engineering and IT services provider Universal Technical Resource Services, Inc. (UTRS) has announced the acquisition of Black Cipher Security, LLC.
This development marks an expansion of UTRS’s service portfolio, combining its established IT expertise with Black Cipher’s specialized cybersecurity prowess.
As cyber threats continue to evolve, the merger underscores the growing importance of robust cybersecurity measures across both public and private sectors.
Expanding cybersecurity offerings
Black Cipher Security, founded in 2013, brings to the table a robust suite of cybersecurity services. These include managed security, risk management, and advisory services for a diverse clientele spanning states, municipalities, hospitals, and financial institutions. The company also offers outsourced executive security leadership, providing high-level expertise to organizations lacking in-house capabilities.
“This is a great opportunity to build upon the essential services that both of our companies have been providing,” said Larry Hershman, former owner of Black Cipher and newly appointed Director of Cybersecurity Services for UTRS.
Strengthening defense and commercial services
UTRS has long been a key player in providing engineering and IT services to the Department of Defense (DoD) and other public sector entities. With offices across the United States, the company has built a reputation for delivering high-quality, technology-based solutions. The acquisition of Black Cipher Security is set to enhance UTRS’s ability to serve both government and commercial clients.
David Zalcmann, Chief Operating Officer of UTRS, emphasized the importance of this move: “The new subsidiary and addition of Black Cipher will allow UTRS to further improve and expand its critical services to the DoD as well as to commercial markets.”
While specific revenue figures were not disclosed, the combined entity will see a significant boost in its cybersecurity-related income. The workforce is expected to grow as well, with UTRS likely to expand its team of cybersecurity professionals to meet increasing demand.
