CEBU, PHILIPPINES — The chief operating officer of an 18-year-old Cebu contact center, Jermaine Arco, has been there for 16 of those years. So has Marie Basan, the longest-serving agent among the employees named in the feature, who is still a customer service representative after 16 years.
Of the 17 employees named in its 18th-anniversary feature, six have been there 15 years or more.
Six at 15 years or more
Arco, Basan and campaign manager Lester Campo have each been at Select VoiceCom for 16 years, according to an anniversary feature the company published on Sept. 22.
Team leader Ray Francis Vertudazo, campaign manager Charmaenne Vertudazo and customer service representative Andy Martinez have each reached 15.
Martinez joined in 2011 and has been a customer service representative ever since. For Campo, the feature says, colleagues he met over those 16 years grew into relationships he values as much as any promotion or milestone.
Ray Francis Vertudazo traces his turning point to being trusted with more. “One of the biggest challenges that really tested me and changed me was the trust my superiors placed in me back in 2011,” he recalled.
Charmaenne Vertudazo’s story centers on leading others. “Over my 15 years at SVC, I’ve learned that leadership is not about being the person with all the answers. It’s about listening, understanding your people, setting the right example, and knowing when to guide and when to step back,” she said.
Below the six, the feature names team leader Janice Encarquez, who took 11 years to reach the role, team leader Moses Escobilla at eight years and recruitment officer Therese Luar at five.
The two moments Arco remembers
Arco named two moments as what he calls his core memory of the company. “We’ve been through a lot. I’d probably say two. During Typhoon Odette and during the onset of the pandemic. Why I can’t forget that is because we had to do a lot of things for our employees to make sure that we stay operational,” he recalled.
OA covered the storm’s toll on Cebu’s IT-BPM sector in December 2021.
“We talk about caring for our people, but during difficult times, you actually see what that means,” he added.
Why tenure matters to buyers
For companies buying customer service from the Philippines, the people who stay on an account carry its knowledge from one year to the next.
Buyers comparing business process outsourcing (BPO) partners can ask how long the agents, team leaders and managers assigned to their account have been with the provider, and can start with the top 40 BPO companies in the Philippines list.
Select VoiceCom is currently subscribed as an Outsource Accelerator (OA) BPO Partner. Through OA’s Marketing, Sales, and Source Partner Hubs, the firm accesses a unified growth platform designed to convert high-intent prospects and accelerate deal flow in the outsourcing industry.
