BPOs want government incentives for training workers
In exchange for providing information technology skills training to workers, business process outsourcing (BPO) companies intend to request the government to provide them incentives. This was a proposal raised by BPO companies following the government’s move to rationalise tax incentives, according to KMC Savills managing director Michael McCullough. He said the latest government tax moves now cost some BPO businesses operating in special economic zones that used to be exempted from value-added taxes. McCullough said the industry is trying to push for the government to at least give them back some sort of credit for the amount of money they put into training workers, which in turn will encourage more investments in knowledge process outsourcing by growing a higher skilled labor pool.
