Machines to perform more than 50% of jobs by 2025
More than 50% of all current workplace tasks globally will be performed by machines by 2025, up from 29% at present, according to new research by the World Economic Forum. The study, however, provides a positive outlook as it predicts 133 million jobs will be created by 2022 compared to 75 million that will be displaced by automation and artificial intelligence. The survey polled chief HR officers and top strategy executives from companies across 12 industries and 20 developed and emerging economies. The research, published in The Future of Jobs 2018, found that 54% of employees of large firms will need significant retraining in order to fully harness the growth opportunities offered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Nearly 50% of the companies surveyed also expect their full-time workforce to shrink by 2022 as a result of automation.
