Red Hat opens Philippines office
Red Hat, the leading provider of open source solutions, has opened its first office in the Philippines amid increasing information technology (IT) spending. At the launch held at Fairmont Hotel in Makati City last Thursday, Red Hat’s vice president and general manager for Asian growth and emerging markets Damien Wong, said robust economic growth bodes well for an enterprise software company such as Red Hat. He said the country’s IT spending last year was US$7 billion with growth rate at 8.5%. Wong added that Filipino organizations’ realization that access to open source innovation is vital for digital transformation initiatives was another reason that prompted Red Hat to establish an office here. The Philippine office is the fifth in the ASEAN region. According to Red Hat executives, the country’s strong commercial infrastructure, talented and highly educated human resources in technology, and strong ecosystem of customers and partners are factors that make the Philippines a strategic location.
