Mislatel expected to get franchise to operate in PH after May polls

Mislatel Consortium is now expected to start operating in the Philippines after the midterm elections in May, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said. The scheduled operation has been delayed after the Lower House and the Senate failed to reconcile their respective versions of the resolution that grants approval of firm’s franchise. In an interview, DICT acting secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. said the office still has to wait for the formal approval from the Congress before it can give out the necessary radio frequencies and before the National Telecommunications Commission can issue Mislatel a license to operate as a telecoms company. Officials are now expecting to get the final sign-off papers by May or June after the upcoming local and national elections on 13 May 2019.
