Check placement of senior high graduates, labor official urges

An official from the Department of Labor and Employment in the Central Visayas region has urged the Labor Tripartite Council in Education (LTPE) to check whether senior high school graduates under the new K-12 curriculum have indeed landed jobs. DOLE-7 regional director Salome Siaton wants to know the placement rate of senior high school graduates who opted to enter the workforce rather than enrolling in college. According to DOLE-7’s Project Jobsfit 2022 Report, construction, BPO, and tourism remain the major employment generators in the region. The latest data from the National Economic and Development Authority in Central Visayas revealed that the same sectors are also the top drivers of growth in the region. Although completing senior high school does not promise employment, Siaton said that graduating from that level would mean better opportunities for students.
