DOLE eyes cash aid for 3M displaced workers

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is currently considering providing cash aid to three million displaced workers next year, said Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III.
This current move from the agency was disclosed amid the request from labor groups for another round of financial assistance for retrenched employees during the lockdown measures against the COVID-19 virus.
Bello said that the beneficiaries would be included as recipients in the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
In an interview with the BusinessMirror, Assistant Labor Secretary Dominique Tutay said that “the changes may be discussed during the [budget] deliberations in Congress.”
The labor agency has recently launched its “Covid-19 Adjustment Measures” (CAM) program. It is a one-time P5,000 (approximately US$ 99) financial assistance to workers from the formal sector who were displaced during the pandemic.
