Global COVID-19 case count exceeds 200M

The total global COVID-19 cases surpassed 200 million last Wednesday, August 4, according to a report by Johns Hopkins University. The death toll worldwide has reached over 4 million as of the afternoon of August 5.
The highest counts were recorded in the United States with more than 35 million cases and 614,666 deaths, accounting for 18% of the COVID cases and 15% of the deaths across the world.
This was followed by India with more than 31 million and Brazil with over 19 million cases. The South American nation also recorded the world’s second-largest death toll with 558,432.
The global COVID-19 caseload reached 100 million last January 26, doubling more than half a year later.
